John 11:9-10: Yeshua answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. (10)"But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him."
Proverb 6:23: "For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching [Hebrew: Torah] is light [Hebrew: Ore]; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life" (brackets are mine)
The Torah is Light (see Etymology of Torah) and living in darkness is dangerous to everyone. If you've ever spent much time in a dark place where you've gone long periods without light (such as a power outage, a cave, or prison cell), you understand or can imagine the multitude of mild to severe dangers that could develop. Not only physical dangers (such as Vitamin D deficiencies or smashing your pinky toe), but there are social, mental, and emotional dangers as well. As you are probably assuming I'm about to suggest, there are many dangers when individuals and communities and nations live outside of Torah boundaries. Living in the Light, Walking in the Light, is healthy for everyone for a myriad of reasons and on many dimensions (far too many to cover here), and those dangers are not prone to just befall Israelites. The Christian "theologians", using brilliant exegesis, typically teach that "the Torah is only for the Jews", which is to say the Light is only good for Jews, which is to say the rest of the world is immune to the dangers of darkness, which is completely ridiculous.
Note: (1.) When I speak of "Torah", I'm speaking of the Written Torah of Moses. It is important to know the difference between the Torah of יהוה and the torah of men, the "the doctrines of men", or the "commandments of men" as condemned in Isaiah 29:13. (2.) I do not think Light is exclusively contained within the Torah, but I do believe יהוה is the ultimate source of all Light and He has given the Torah as the primary written source for mankind. In other words, if some other so-called "Orah" outside of Torah contradicts the "Orah" within the Torah, then I personally go with the latter (for example, New Testament texts do NOT trump the five books of Moses). (3.) It should be understood that portions of the Torah are impossible "to do" at this current time (for example, the priestly functions of the Temple). The hope of the Messianic era is that all Torah will be performed in righteous judgement at some future time.
The Christian theologians and the Jewish Noahide advocates seemed to have overlooked a few critical places written in the Torah which oppose their message.
Leviticus 24:22: "There shall be one standard for you; it shall be for the stranger as well as the native, for I am יהוה your Elohim.'"
Numbers 15:15-16: As for the assembly, there shall be one statute for you and for the alien who sojourns with you, a perpetual statute throughout your generations; as you are, so shall the alien be before יהוה. There is to be one law and one ordinance for you and for the alien who sojourns with you."
Perplexing isn't it? Also see: Exodus 12:49; Numbers 9:14.
The Prophets of the Tanakh describe the coming Messiah as the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) but then he is also coming to rule as the Son of David with an Iron Sceptre (Psalm 2:8-9). For the modern tree hugging liberal, these two images seem to be incongruent, or polar opposites. But in a very real sense, they aren't. At some point in your life, you can probably remember being in a home of complete chaos where numerous children run amuck with no discipline or order. There is no father holding the standard in the home and there is certainly no Peace (similar to the current House of Joseph). Then of course, some of us have probably been in a home or grown up in a home where the standard is unbearable (similar to the current House of Jewdah). There may be a sense of order, but there is no true Peace. In my own personal experience, the homes of large families where there is a father and a supporting mother who hold a reasonable line of Law but fill the walls with safety and love... those are the homes where Law and Peace best display their congruence and compatibility.
You may think it odd to quote a self-help book here, but I thought this quite insightful when considering what we just covered above:
"Where does intrinsic security come from? It doesn't come from what other people think of us or how they treat us. It doesn't come from the scripts they've handed us. It doesn't come from our circumstances or our position. It comes from within. It comes from accurate paradigms and correct principles deep in our own mind and heart. It comes from inside-out congruence, from living a life of integrity in which our daily habits reflect our deepest values. I believe that life of integrity is the most fundamental source of personal worth. I do not agree with the popular success literature that says that self-esteem is primarily a matter of mind set, of attitude--that you can psych yourself into peace of mind. Peace of mind comes when your life is in harmony with true principles and values and in no other way." -Covey, Steven R. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People pg.298
The Torah given to Moses from יהוה is the best, most accurate, and correct "set of values" known to and designed for mankind. The Most High is writing the Torah deep in all of our hearts by His Spirit (Jeremiah 31:31-33), but it is up to us to keep it in our minds and manifested through our hands, feet, and lips.
Israel was to be a Light to ALL Nations (Isaiah 42:6), but without Torah, she only offers darkness.
