Reasons the Babylon of Jeremiah 50-51 is an End-Time Babylon

We know from the Book of Revelation that there will be an end-time Babylon whose name will be a mystery (Revelation 17:5). We have many traits of this end-time Babylon referenced in various Scripture passages. See the article titled Traits of End-Time Babylon(s) for more details. We also know the Babylon of Jeremiah 50-51 is "Daughter Babylon" (Jeremiah 50:12, 51:33).

The Reasons:

  • Jeremiah 50:4, 51:5-6,50 indicate BOTH Jew-dah and 10-Israel will return together to Zion at daughter Babylon's destruction. The vast weight of history indicates that only Jew-dah returned from Ancient Babylon to Zion. See 10 Proofs "the Jews" are from Judah.
  • Jeremiah 50:5 indicates that an everlasting covenant would be established after Jew-dah and 10-Israel return together. 10-Israel was largely not present and there was certainly no everlasting covenant established at the time of Ancient Babylon's capture by the Persians. Jeremiah 31:31-34 very much seems to indicate this "everlasting covenant" is an end-time event that has not yet occurred.
  • Jeremiah 50:20 indicates Israel and Judah will be without sin and guilt during this period of restoration from Babylon. Is Israel and Judah yet sinless? Not hardly.
  • Jeremiah 50:12-13, 39-40, 51:25-29, 51:64 all indicate daughter Babylon will be suddenly and utterly destroyed, never to be inhabited again. Ancient Babylon was actually captured by the Persian emperor Cyrus and it eventually became the capital of their 9th Satrapy (or province). It was certainly not destroyed utterly and left uninhabitable.
  • Jeremiah 51:42 indicates daughter Babylon will be covered by the sea at her destruction (which would require major earth changes, not just an invasion). Ancient Babylon was not covered by Sea, but instead by Sand after the span of many centuries.
