Is Yeshua and YHVH (the Father) the same Person?

Print
Initial Thoughts:
  • יהוה said He would put His feet on the Mount of Olives and be King (Zechariah 14:1-9) and Yeshua (Jesus) ascended from the Mount of Olives (Acts 1:29) and said He will return the same way He left (Acts 1:11) and will be King over all the Earth.
  • A Jewish crowd sought to kill Yeshua (by stoning) for making Himself equal to the Most High (John 10:26-39).
  • Yeshua told His listeners not to call anyone "Rabbi", but He didn't refuse, rebuke, or resist those who called Him "Rabbi", which literally means "my Great One". Could He be the only One worthy to be called "my Great One"?
  • Throughout the Scriptures, whenever a mere person bowed down in worship of another "man" or "angel", the person's worship is quickly resisted and corrected, but why do we never see Yeshua resisting such. This is especially evident in the Book of Revelation.
  • In order for Yeshua to be our Passover Lamb (John 1:29), He must have been perfect or unblemished, but He Himself said "no man is good, but God" (Matthew 19:17; Mark 10:18; Luke 18:19). If He was perfect, then how could He have been less than God? Was He less than Perfect or less than Good?

The following is a two-column table using OT and NT verses to compare Yehovah (יהוה) with Yehoshua/Yeshua (יהושע).

יהוה (Yehovah) as…

יהושע (Yehoshua) as…

The Aleph and the Tav

The Aleph and the Tav

Isaiah 41:4 “Who has performed and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? ‘I, יהוה, am the first, and with the last I am He.’ ”

Isaiah 44:6 “Thus said יהוה, Sovereign of Yisra’ĕl, and his Redeemer, יהוה of hosts, ‘I am the First and I am the Last, besides Me there is no Elohim.”

Compare also: Isa 48:12

Revelation 1:7-8

(7) See, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye shall see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth shall mourn because of Him. Yes, Amen.

(8) “I am the ‘Aleph’ and the ‘Taw’, Beginning and End,” says יהוה “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Compare also: Rev 1:10-18; 21:6; 22:13

I AM that I AM

I AM that I AM

Exodus 3:14 And Elohim said to Mosheh, “I am that which I am.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’ ”

John 8:56-59

(56) “Your father Abraham was glad that he should see My day, and he saw it and did rejoice.”

(57) The Yehudim, therefore, said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”

(58) Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I am.”

(59) Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Yeshua was hidden and went out of the Set-apart Place, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Compare: Gen 18:1-2,22; 19:1.

Isaiah 43:10-11

(10) “You are My witnesses,” declares יהוה, “And My servant whom I have chosen, so that you know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no Ěl formed, nor after Me there is none.

(11) “I, I am יהוה, and besides Me there is no saviour.

John 8:23-24

(23) And He said to them, “You are from below, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world.

(24) “Therefore I said to you that you shall die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins.”

Compare John 18:5-8

Creator of the Universe

Creator of the Universe

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth.”

Genesis 2:7 “And יהוה Elohim formed the man out of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils breath of life. And the man became a living being.”

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim.”

John 1:10 “He was in the world, and the world came to be through Him, and the world did not know Him.”

Psalm 33:6 “By the Word of יהוה the heavens were made, And all their host by the Spirit of His mouth,”

Ephesians 3:9 “and to make all see how this secret is administered, which for ages past has been hidden in Elohim who created all through יהושע Messiah,”

Compare: John 1:3, Col. 1:16, Heb. 1:2; 11:3, 2 Pet 3:5.

Malachi 2:10a “Have we not all one Father? Did not one El create us?”

Isaiah 40:28 “Did you not know? Have you not heard? The everlasting Elohim, יהוה, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.”

Revelation 4:8-11

(8) And the four living creatures, each having six wings, were covered with eyes around and within. And they do not cease, day or night, saying, “Set-apart, set-apart, set-apart, יהוה El Shaddai, who was, and who is, and who is coming!”

(9) And when the living creatures give esteem and respect and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever,

(10) the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and bow before Him who lives forever and ever, and they cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

(11) “You are worthy, O יהוה, to receive esteem and respect and power, for You have created all, and because of Your desire they are, and were created.”

Compare Rev 10:6; 14:6-7; 21:5-7; 22:3.

Job 33:4 “The Spirit of El has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”

1 Corinthians 8:6 “for us there is one Elohim, the Father, from whom all came and for whom we live, and one Master יהושע Messiah, through whom all came and through whom we live.”

John 1:18 “No one has ever seen Elohim [Compare John 5:37, 6:46, 1 John 4:12]. The only brought-forth Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He did declare.”

Yehovah, from within His bosom (inside His greater Unknowable-self), created everything that is knowable and occasionally injects Himself into the knowable to be known and even seen in the image of a man, which is actually “in the image of Himself”. See Genesis 1:26-27; 18:1-2,22; 19:1; 32:24-30 and consider the Jewish concept of “Tzimtzum”.

Shepherd who Gathers

Shepherd who Gathers

Jeremiah 23:3 “Therefore I shall gather the remnant of My flock out of all the lands where I have driven them, and shall bring them back to their fold. And they shall bear and increase.”

Compare: Psalm 80:1-19; Eze 34:1-31; Isa 54:7.

1Peter 2:25 “For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your lives.”

Compare: John 10:1-18; 1Pet 5:4; Heb 13:20-21.

The Redeemer / Saviour

The Redeemer / Saviour

Isaiah 44:24 “Thus said יהוה, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the womb, “I am יהוה, doing all, stretching out the heavens all alone, spreading out the earth, with none beside Me,”

Compare: Isa 40:28; 45:11-18; Psalm 80:1-19.

Revelation 5:9 “And they sang a renewed song, saying, ‘You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals, because You were slain, and have redeemed us to Elohim by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,” .

Compare Tit 2:14; Luk 24:21; Gal 3:12-14; 1 Tim 2:5-6; Col 1:14.

Isaiah 43:11-12

(11) “I, I am יהוה, and besides Me there is no saviour.”

(12) “I, I have declared and saved, and made known, and there was no foreign mighty one among you. And you are My witnesses,” declares יהוה, “that I am Ěl.”

Luke 2:10-11

(10) And the messenger said to them, “Do not be afraid, for look, I bring you good news of great joy which shall be to all people.

(11) “Because there was born to you today in the city of David, a Saviour, who is Messiah, the Master.

Isaiah 35:4 Say to those with anxious heart, “Be strong, do not fear! See, your Elohim comes with vengeance, with the recompense of Elohim. He is coming to save you.”

Compare: Isa 43:25; 45:21; 49:25-26.

John 4:42 And they said to the woman, “We no longer believe because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this is truly the Messiah, the Saviour of the world.”

Compare: 1 Tim 1:1; Acts 5:31; 13:23; Eph 5:23.

The Husband

The Husband

Isaiah 54:5-6

(5)  “For your Maker is your husband, יהוה of hosts is His Name, and the Set-apart One of Israel is your Redeemer. He is called the Elohim of all the earth.

(6)  “For יהוה has called you like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when you were refused,” declares your Elohim.

Ephesians 5:24-25

(24)  But as the assembly is subject to Messiah, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in every respect.

(25)  Husbands, love your wives, as Messiah also did love the assembly and gave Himself for it,

Compare: Rom 7:1-4.

The Lawgiver

The Lawgiver

Exodus 20:6 but showing kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and guard My commands.

Deut 7:9 “And you shall know that יהוה your Elohim, He is Elohim, the trustworthy Ěl guarding covenant and kindness for a thousand generations with those who love Him, and those who guard His commands,

Compare: Deut 5:10, 11:1,13,22; 30:16; Jos 22:5

James 4:12a There is one Lawgiver and Judge, who is able to save and to destroy.

John 14:15 “If you love Me, you shall guard My commands.

Compare: Exo 20:21-23; 1 John 5:2-3; 2 John 1:6.

The Rock

The Rock

Numbers 20:8 “Take the rod and assemble the congregation, you and your brother Aharon. And you shall speak to the rock before their eyes, and it shall give its water. And you shall bring water for them out of the rock and give drink to the congregation and their livestock.”

Psalm 18:2 יהוה is my rock and my stronghold and my deliverer; My Ěl is my rock, I take refuge in Him; My shield and the horn of my deliverance, my high tower.

1 Corinthians 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was Messiah.

Acts 4:11 “This is ‘the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus said the Master יהוה, “See, I am laying in Tsiyon a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious corner-stone, a settled foundation. He who trusts shall not hasten away.

Compare: Psalm 31:3; 78:35; 89:26; Isa 17:10

1Peter 2:6 Because it is contained in the Scripture, “See, I lay in Tsiyon a chief corner-stone, chosen, precious, and he who believes on Him shall by no means be put to shame.”

Compare: Matt 16:18; Eph 2:20

Considering the problem texts:

Proverbs 8:1-36 is not a mysterious allusion to Yeshua being created before the rest of Creation. The general context indicates "Wisdom" is the subject. Wisdom is actually the one speaking (proverbially) at times. Proverbs 8:1-2 indicates Wisdom is feminine (apparently Solomon thought of Wisdom as a "she"). However, if Yeshua is the Creator and Lawgiver, then of course He is the embodiment of Wisdom, but applying the proverbial person of Wisdom in Proverbs 8 to Yeshua (in order to prop-up the belief that Yeshua and the Father are separate Persons) is inconsistent and over-reaching.

Comment: Hebrew words in Isaiah 43

I believe it is critical to observe that in Is. 43 in the 3 verses Savior/saved is used that the Hebrew word is yasha, the same root as Yeshua. Also in Is. 35:4 and Is. 45:25, "saved" is yasha. How can one dismiss this evidence?

Recently I heard Rico Cortez mention that when our Bridegroom comes for His bride in the days to come He will not come with the Name Yeshua, because Yeshua/deliverer was His "function" but He will come as our Beloved in the last days.
