To Whom It may Concern: My Name is Harold. I am currently writing book titled: "The Bible According to Harold". The information I found on your website is going to be helpful in this project. The definition of the word Tekufah as meaning circuit as used in the article "Will the Real Equinox Please Stand Up" is correct. I will site part of this article in my book. In this book I define the ancient Biblical year as different from the modern solar year as per information I gathered from Genesis. I thank you for being there. Sincerely, Harold

Your comments are all great! I have always gone by the Equinox and have never read the book of Enoch. The reason is Gen 1:14 "The LIGHTS" will be for signs, seasons , days , and YEARS". God placed the LIGHTS in the heavens to determine the year (specifically which new moon is the new year). Another scripture verse that goes along with it is Ex 13:10 which tells you to keep it in its season. I know the word is moed but we also know it was Spring. We know that you have to have Spring. The lights determine When Spring is. It is kind of like the chicken and the egg question....what came first. The Barley? or do the lights cause the barley to become Abib? The Equinox was the only sign that I knw of in the lights that could tell us a time of year like Spring.

However, Since it is the lights that cause everything to bloom and show the signs of Spring, it would be reasonable that we would see those signs everywhere around us BEFORE we saw the moon. What we, (as western, and Greek thinkers,) say is that it has to be one specific thing. Hebrew is not specific. It actually paints a picture and you know what people say about pictures....that they paint a thousand words. Hebrew (Gods Language) paints a picture. He says (paraphrase) When it is Spring, I want you to observe my Feast" The lights determine the year but you can observe this through what I have placed in front of you.

Thank you for considering these thoughts.

The Tanach alone doesn't give enough information for ANY calendar to be built. The Tanach never says one should observe the crescent moon. In fact, it doesn't even use the word moon for biblical months, only for the secular foreign ones. The Tanach says the calculation relies on sun, moon and stars. The karaite calendar relies on sun, moon, and barley, and their own interpretation of what phase of the moon is the beginning of the month, which the Bible says nothing about.

The biblical months in all given chronology is always 30 days long. The Bible never says anything about a 13th month. Nor does it command us to add a month in the absense of barley.

What's my point? It's simple: The only book that gives details on a calendar is the Book of Enoch. From Enoch we can understand the biblical calendar, and Enoch was canonical during the times of Yeshua. And Enoch mentions the equinox.

Without Enoch as Scripture, there's no way to calculate a calendar. No matter which model you choose, you'll still be stuck with a lot of guess work.

Micah 2:4---and the law shall go forth from Jerusalem. I know people who keep the sighted moon based on when that new moon occurs in their City. I think that is confusing when that can place them on a different timeable than Jerusalam.

I don;t know what happened in the wilderness---I was not there. I have asked those who keep the equinox calendar for historic (non-Scriptural) documentation of when the calendar was changed. No one has yet provided that information as to when it was changed. This is in contrast with other noted religious calendar changes of others.

There are those who Scripturally can prove most anything, including the Sabbath being from Thursday noon to Friday noon, and the 1st day of the week starting with the new moon.

May you be blessed with the fruit of the Spirit in your relationships with your fellow man and brethren.

Nehemia, then can you please explain to me; that IF in fact Moshe sisnt use the Sun, moon and stars as given for us to use in bereshith to determine the days, months and years; how exactly did they determine these specifically commanded times for our New Moons, Shabat and moedim 40yrs in the desert where no crops grew, and at least 1200 miles from Jerusalem? Not to mention that I see no commandment that these sitings or calculations have to be done from Jerusalem.

Please explain.

I have been looking around jewsandjoes.com and actually am impressed by the amazing content here. I work the nightshift at my job and it really gets boring. I have been coming right here for the previous couple nights and reading. I simply needed to let you know that I have been enjoying what I have seen and I look forward to reading more.
