Frank...I noticed while doing some research for my congregation into the tribes after Solomon some time after my class ended at Liberty University...your questions are word for word out of the Harbin textbook Promise and the Blessing. Trying to get these fellows to do your homework for you?? I hope that is not the case.

I HAVE JUST STARTED READING "JUDAH'S SCEPTER AND JOSEPH'S BIRTHRIGHT." IF I BELIEVE WHAT J. H. ALLEN IS SAYING, DOES THIS MEAN I BELIEVE IN TWO HOUSE? I ATTEND A MESSIANIC CONGREGATION WHICH IS STRONGLY OPPOSED TO THE TWO HOUSE CONCEPT, BUT AS I READ THIS BOOK I AM MORE CONVINCED THIS IS A STRONG DEFENSE FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF PART OF ISRAEL BEING ANGLO-SAXON. ANY HELP TOWARD UNDERSTANDING THESE CONCEPTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

The tribe of Ephraim is basically the same as the tribe of Joseph. Revelation 7:8 mentions a tribe of Joseph, while Revelation 7:6 indicates there is a tribe of Manasseh. Interestingly, Dan is no longer mentioned, and Simeon has reappeared in Rev 7. Also, consider what Ezekiel 37:16 says: "then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companion."

Do you mean in antiquity or in modern times?

In modern times, two things primarily separate both houses: belief in Messiah Yeshua/Jesus and the "Oral Torah" controversy (submitting to Rabbinic halakah).

In antiquity, it was sin and taxation... which I already described above.

Why did the northern tribes leave the kingdom of Israel? Well, the Northern Tribes didn't leave the Kingdom of Israel. They were "the Kingdom of Israel". They separated from the Kingdom of Judah. Their expressed reason was because of the high taxation of King Rehoboam, but YHVH's expressed reason was due to Solomon's sin (I Kings 11).

What steps did Jeroboam take to establish a separate identity for the Northern Kingdom? Most importantly, he set up a new capital and wouldn't allow the people to celebrate the Festivals in Jerusalem. He basically setup a new religious system apart from Judah and the prescriptions of Torah. Eventually, Judah also setup a religious system that added to and removed the prescriptions of Torah, something expressly forbidden within the Torah itself.

Unlike what many Talmudists insist, the Northern Tribes didn't rebel against the authority of "the Rabbis", but the authority of the House of David... and it was something caused and directed by YHVH.
