What lies have you (we) inherited?

For several weeks, I've been thinking of composing a list of the various lies and idols we have inherited from our fathers in the nations of our exile. Anyone care to help? Add your thoughts in the comment area below.

Jeremiah 16:19 "O' YHWH, my strength and my stronghold, And my refuge in the day of distress, To You the nations will come From the ends of the earth and say, "Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, worthless idols and things of no profit."

Developing list of Lies we've inherited from our "religious" fathers:

  • The death of Yeshua (Jesus) did away with the Torah, the Light (Proverbs 6:23; Psalm 19:8; Psalm 119:105). See Are Gentile Christians "required" to walk in Torah?
  • "Torah" just means "Law". See Etymology of the word "Torah"
  • The Torah is only for "Jews" (exegetical arguments).
  • We're under a "new" or renewed marriage covenant. See Are We under a "New Covenant" Yet?
  • Once you’re saved, you’re good to go (from comment: @Hadassah).
  • Yeshua was born on December 25th (Winter Solstice), not the Festival of Tabernacles.
  • Christmas is not pagan, it is a biblical holiday (from comment: @Earnest Andrews).
  • Easter is not pagan, it is a biblical holiday (from comment: @Earnest Andrews).
  • Yeshua was resurrected on Easter Sunday.
  • It is mathematically possible to count three days and three nights from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning.
  • Sunday is the new Sabbath for the followers of Yeshua.
  • It’s OK to celebrate Halloween disguised as a harvest festival (from comment: @Earnest Andrews).
  • Eating Pork and Lobster is okay for a Christian "walking in the Light" (no reason to read Acts 10 in context because we like honey-baked ham).
  • Jesus only gave 2 commandments (Matthew 22:36-40) for Gentiles to follow... no wait... there are 4 commandments (Acts 15:19-20) for Gentiles (from comment: @Keith).
  • "The Jews" represent all 12 tribes of Israel. See Two-House Theology (Reality) defined and defended.
  • The Two Houses of Israel and Judah have already united into one people, "the Jews", in antiquity.
  • The Church and Israel are separate spiritual bodies of people.
  • There is a spiritual Israel (the Church) and a physical Israel (the Jews).
  • The word "Church" appears in the original NT scriptures.
  • The word "Easter" appears in the original NT scriptures.
  • "The Church" is married to Jesus. "The Jews" are married to the Father.
  • Moses gave us two Torahs, the Written Torah and the Oral Torah.
  • It is okay for religious men to just create commandments out of thin air or render commandments obsolete on a whim. See Do not ADD to nor TAKE AWAY from the Written Torah.
  • If a Rabbi says it is Kosher (Okay), then it is Okay.
  • Yeshua followed "Oral Torah".
  • Yeshua was / is just a man, but he was "good" enough to be a perfect sacrifice, even though no man is truly good, but God (Luke 18:19).
  • It is okay to gather and celebrate the pilgrimage festivals (chagim) in places other than the Place of the Great Name.
  • End-Time Mystery Babylon is just a religious system.
  • The ministry of Yeshua lasted 3.5 years, not 70 weeks.
  • Prophecies can only be fulfilled once.
  • Yeshua completed all prophecy at the Cross.
  • The Book of Revelation is only allegorical.
  • The Rapture will occur prior to the Tribulation and not at the Last Trumpet (from comment: @Matthew /1Corinthians 15:51-52).
  • Yeshua would not allow His bride to go through tribulation (Luke 21).
  • The Kingdom of Heaven is already present in this world within the “church” (from comment: @Keith).
  • Elijah already came (John the Baptist) so we should not look for him to come in the future (Matthew 17:10-13).
  • Miracles no longer happen today, outside the "Apostolic Era".
  • The New Testament is apart of "the Holy Scriptures" that Yeshua and Paul referred to (from comment: @Elisheva).
  • The Apostle Paul's words have authority to trump the Torah and the Living Torah, Yeshua (from comment: @Elisheva).
  • If you pray hard enough and starve yourself long enough, you can manipulate the Creator into moving His hand or giving you cool stuff.
  • Sacrifice is worth more than obedience.
  • Praying without a head-covering is sin.
  • Saying the Great Name of YHWH is sin.
  • Men having long hair is sin.
  • Drinking alcohol is sin.
  • Vaccines are SAFE!!
  • The dangers of sunlight exposure outweigh the benefits (see Vitamin D Council).
  • Sunlight exposure is the primary cause of skin cancer.
  • Vitamin D is just a vitamin, not a powerful hormone and epigenetic modifier.
  • The WHO and Pharmaceutical companies truly care about you.
  • The Gulf War syndrome only occurs in those who participated in the Gulf War, not in any way is it connected to mandatory vaccines.
  • Just eat a balanced diet consisting of the "four basic food groups", exercise, and you'll experience great health.
  • Our farm soils are not depleted of minerals, nor are they over-worked and over-polluted.
  • Seven year land rests is an out-dated "religious" practice.
  • Eating 150 lbs of High Fructose Corn Syrup per year is acceptable for human consumption.
  • There is no proof that Genetically Modified Foods are harmful to humans or animals.
  • Obesity is completely normal, even beautiful.
  • Running 10 miles a day and sweating out pounds of minerals critical to your health is actually beneficial to your health.
  • One multi-tablet a day, full of metallic minerals, is all your body needs!
  • Eating eggs, salt, and butter are dangerous habits!
  • Earth is the ONLY planet experiencing "global warming" or "climate change" in our solar system... and humans, SUVs, and cows are the primary cause of it all.
  • It took tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of years for the human population to reach the current levels with the current diversity (exponential mathematics and epigenetics are unsuitable alternative explainations).
  • Genetic superiority can be determined simply by the color of one's skin (from comment: @Elisheva).
  • The curse of Ham is the reason Africans are "black" or darker in skin tone. "White" people are justified in enslaving and/or persecuting Africans.
  • Women with careers are superior to homemakers (from comment: @Elisheva).
  • The normal birthing process is a near death experience requiring medical intervention (from comment: @Elisheva).
  • Public schooling is educating (from comment: @Elisheva).
  • Only once youth have reached age 18 should they be held responsible for their actions (from comment: @Elisheva).
  • Mainstream modern left-wing / right-wing politicians truly hope for and act for different policies.
  • The US Federal Reserve is a federal agency and has reserves.
  • Banks only loan out what they have in reserve.
  • Credit Card interest rates of 30% are perfectly normal.
  • Indebtedness is a necessary evil, even a good thing in the modern world.
  • The IMF is the friend of the third-world.
  • JFK was killed by a lone assassin (from comment: @Matthew)
  • WTC 7 building was destroyed solely by fire on 9/11. See A thousand architects and engineers want to know.
  • The NWO plans will fail if we simply "expose" them. No need to concern ourselves with repentance and morality.
  • YHWH wouldn't allow robbers and spoilers to rob and spoil His people (Isaiah 42:24).
  • Western-style democracy will cure the ills of muslim and communist nations.
  • The Jewish Holocaust never happened (from comment @Matthew).
  • The modern nation of Israel should go without criticism in the democratic western world.
  • Kings and governments wouldn't stage false-flag events just to manipulate the masses to go to war (e.g., burning of the Reichstag).
  • The common US Citizens is constitutionally required to pay income taxes (from comment: @Elisheva).
  • All people with high-standards of righteousness are extremists, potential domestic terrorists (from comment: @Elisheva).

Developing list of idols, futility, and things of no profit:

Note:  Some of the following things are not necessarily or inherently evil... it is when these things rule our lives or compete with our loyalty to the only One who really deserves it. And I think all of us struggle with some variety or subset of the following.

  • Money
  • Money celebrities (e.g., Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Donald Trump)
  • Movies / Entertainment
  • Movie celebrities
  • Music celebrities (e.g., American IDOL)
  • Religious system (e.g., set of doctrines / individual creed)
  • Religious celebrities (e.g., the Pope, Rabbis, Teachers, Priests)
  • Statism / Government (i.e., looking to government to perform the functions of the Creator)
  • Sports (trophy idols)
  • Sport celebrities / Events (e.g., Super Bowl, Olympics, World Cup)
  • Food / Gluttony
  • Food Celebrities
  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Hunting / Fishing (i.e., wall-mount idols)
  • Sex / lust of the eyes
  • Materialism (e.g., house, cars, dvd libraries)
  • Personal fame
  • Work / Career
  • Gaining appreciation or notoriety (e.g., from family, friends, colleagues)
  • The condition of always being "right"
  • Vanity / lover of one's self (from comment: @Matthew) / "Have it Your Way" mantra (from comment: @Elisheva)
  • Political Correctness
  • Religious Correctness
  • Pagan-baptized traditions (e.g., Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Lent, etc)

Many of my friends and family may not agree with all that I have attributed to the "lies" list. Feel free to express your disagreement in the comment area. I desire to be "right", but I don't idolize that condition. =)

If I don't add your suggestion to the list, it only means I may not agree or I haven't figured out how I want to add it yet.

    The pre-trib rapture! The Bible states when we will go to be “snatched” away in 1Corinthians 15:51-52 and that is at the last Trumpet.

    -Our Govt’ had NO prior knowlege about Sept. 11th
    -The lie that the Holocost NEVER happened.
    -Spiritual “Hell” is Hell on Earth. IDK if this is relevant but I have heard some wacky teaching on this subject.

    It is a lie that Satan is lord of this earth currently

    It is a lie to believe homemakers are inferior to women with careers.

    It is a lie to believe the color of one’s skin has any real value in terms of underlying DNA and faith.

    It is a lie that the common US citizen is constitutionally required to pay income taxes.

    It is a lie that Public schooling is educating.

    It is a lie that Birth is a complication needing surgery and interference.

    It is a lie that all righteous folks are extremists.

    It is a lie that only Youth who have reached the age of 18 should be held responsible for their actions.

    It is a lie that terrorism is the real reason for the Gulf War and Iraqi oil is not paying for the Gulf War as promised.

    Apostle Paul is not God. His statements or our interpretations of his statements can not trump the Written Torah or the Living Torah, Yeshua.

    The New Testament was not “the Word” that Yeshua was referring to… since it didn’t exist yet.

    The “Love thyself” and “Have it your way” mantras are rooted in idolatry.

    I somewhat disagree regarding the first one you suggested because it does seem from Scripture that Ha-Satawn has significant dominion over the earth currently, but he must not have complete dominion or he would have likely snuffed us out by now. So maybe you’re right, or at least partially right. He has dominion over most of the world, but since we don’t belong to the world or to him, even if he snuffs us out, he doesn’t truly destroy us. And maybe that is why he doesn’t destroy us, because the longer we live, the more opportunity he has to entangle us in the idols of the world… but that must be a dangerous balancing game for him because the longer we live, the more opportunity we also have to win some from Darkness to the Light of Yeshua, the Light of Torah (just thinking out-loud here).

    Haha… hey, groups conspire all the time… to do good and to do evil. That is what a company board meeting is. That is what a surprise birthday party is. That is what a city council meeting is. That is what the Bilderberg meetings are. That is what the bankers recently did in Australia. We all know people are conspiring to do good and we inherently suspect “some” people are conspiring in secret to do evil… largely because of the history of groups to do so and the general premise that The-Adversary must conspire to successfully rule the current kingdoms of this world via the proxy of humanity, people. BUT… we let the mainstream media and Bush and other politicians cast the phrase “conspiracy theory” as just wacko-nut case paranoia. And of course people develop conspiracy theories about that too because of the particular set of people and corporations who own the media companies.

    Some of the events generally connected to “conspiracy theories” actually have extremely GOOD evidence to back them up. The lesser ones, I’ll likely not put on the list, but people can sure comment about them if they wish. Anyone who thinks governments and corporations and bankers aren’t routinely lying to us AND to each other… are deluding themselves. Fairytale land is indeed a more comfortable place to live.

    Once you’re saved, you’re good to go. NO! We must be renewed (transformed; changed) in the spirit of our minds according to Romans 12:2 and set our minds on the things of the Spirit and seek those things which gratify the Holy Spirit as Romans 8:5 says. Our delight shoud be the Word (Torah) and we must meditate on it, as Psalm 1 says.

    The process of being transformed into the image of Messiah TAKES TIME! It’s an ongoing process and we must be patient. It’s not a “bipitty, bopitty, boo!” process and God is not a microwave!

    Many christians think that once they accepted Yeshua as Messiah, there lives and future is ok. But the truth is, YHVH’s children must TURN FROM the old ways of doing things and be consumed by the Word. How can we THINK, SPEAK, PRAY, LIVE, or BELIEVE if we don’t know what the Word says! And HE is the LIVING WORD! The whole Torah must be in our kidneys–minds AND spirit.

    RE: conspiracy theories, yeah, I hear you. The problem is so many false positives. Seriously. Some folks think every little thing in the world is a conspiracy theory, and eventually you just can’t take people seriously because every other statement is about UFO demons being reptilians who are invading from the lower heaven of fallen angels but will be overthrown when the church is released from the grips of the government run by bankers who are controlled by Zionist overloads who are vying for world domination through the Bilderbergers backing.

    (whew, now that was a mouthful!)

    A few more lies:

    1. The Kingdom of Heaven is already present in this world within the “church”. After the church finally dominates this world, then Christ will rule the world. (Hmmm Wonder what denomination will end up dominating this world… sure hope Jesus doesn’t turn out to be fundamentalist Baptist)

    2. The Sabbath is the only commandment not repeated in the New Testament

    3. Jesus only gave 2 commandments … and then when they read Acts 15, their story suddenly changes to “the Gentiles only have 4 commandments”.

    Shalom all, Rabbi Rex here. I have written a book called “We Have Inherited Lies”, and it is available for free in a PDF format on my web site, http://www.shalomtruth.com This is such of an important subject and it would seem that the modern church today is in complete denial. It is so frustrating to me that as I encounter believers, most of them completely refuse to even look at the scriptures for themselves to even see if what I am saying is even true. They, most of the time respond by saying, “well that is not what is taught by my Pastor”, or that, “What you are teaching just doesn’t feel right, we couldn’t possibly be under the Law, (Jesus) came and did away with those OLD Laws, After all, He was a Christian”. The fact that He, Yeshua was a Jew and followed the Fathers Commandments is a complete mystery to them. They cannot even begin to understand that to do away with the Law not only goes against the very foundation to the Torah, but in fact if He was to do this, He would be doing away with Himself. He is and always has been the Torah. It is His very nature. They cannot begin to understand, He was the One who gave us the Torah, and He never changes. When we read that His Law is forever, everlasting, how long is that? Just until “Jesus” came? Last time I checked, forever does not end. Furthermore, by what standard are we to be judged if there is not any Law. Sorry for my ranting, but we all need to pray that they wake up and smell something. Whatever it takes to get them to realize Yeshua was talking to a great majority of them when He said, “The road to destruction is wide, and most people find it, or when He will say, I never knew you, you keepers of Lawlessness.” It will not be the Un-believers who will say to Him, “Hey Lord, didn’t I do this or that in Your name”? My heart brakes for them. Children who rebel against their Father thinking (THEY) know best, not Him who gave us instructions on how to live a holy life. Remember Jer. 18 “The Clay has made itself higher than the Potter”. Shalom my beloved
