He entered the US and became a naturalized American in 1824...His name was written in Hebrew and was translated for us and said to be Josef ben Hasan. My Father was named after him with the name of Joseph and inherited a black ebony walking cane with a gold top with his name inscribed on it. Is there any way of determining his tribe? Apparently after entering the US they hid their Jewish background which we only discovered after the death of my Father and brother who had been sworn to secrecy. My great great Grandfather had only 2 sons that we know of when he emmigrateed to the Us. One was named Joseph and the other Moses, both now deceased. Are we at a dead end? I understand I can not be tested as I am a woman.
