VIDEO: Disputes in the Hebraic-Roots Movement
You've got to admit... this video is totally reminiscent of the emotional nature of many disputes found within various flavors of the Hebraic-Roots movement. =)
Things we divide over:
- Are we allowed to pronounce the Divine Name?
- How to pronounce the Divine Name
- How to pronounce the name of Messiah
- Yeshua Divine or not Divine? Yeshua the same as the Father, or just the Son?
- Yeshua a Karaite, Rabbanite, or just plane ole' Torah-LIGHT?
- ORAL Torah or just WRITTEN Torah?
- How to determine the Calendar and Festival days
- 7-Day fixed Shabbat or Lunar-based Shabbat?
- Leave house or stay in house for Shabbat?
- Head-coverings or no head-coverings? Men or women?
- Meat or no meat?
- Torah "required" for "Gentiles" or not?
- New or Renewed Covenant? Currently (re)newed or a future event?
- Messiah returning bodily near the start or near the end of this Millennium?
- Jubilees in 49-year or 50-year increments?
- Mystery Babylon, a city, religion, empire, system, or all of the above?
- Beast of Revelation, a man, religion, empire, system, or all of the above?
- Flee Mystery Babylon now or later? Slave or free? Live in the system or outside the system?
- Eliyahu(Elijah) coming, already come, already here in Spirit, or all the above?
- Temple or no Temple? Blood sacrifices or no blood sacrifices?
Others can surely think of many more major rifts experienced amongst our family and fellowships... but the above I skimmed off the top of my head. Feel free to add your thoughts in the comment section if you wish.
By the way, I'm NOT suggesting we not discuss or not enter semi-heated discussions about some of the matters above... but I will contend that it is unnecessary to enter and leave such dialogs as children would. In other words, it is true we are to go to the Father "as Children", but maybe we shouldn't fight with each other as children. Dissent and non-uniformity is okay... BUT we can depart with hugs (Ephraimites could learn alot from JEW-dah in this regard). =)
Desiring unity, not uniformity!

Good observations and sooooo true. It’s so frustrating. Makes one wonder how we could ever be one in restoration. I think xtians must have to be really called by YHWH to want to be a part of the Hebrew Roots. It’s because of all the friction that I have never wanted to be part of any Messianic group. I’m not the least bit sorry I left xtianity 5 years ago and I’m very glad I discovered my Hebrew roots and all that entails, but I have no idea what group I would identify with even if I wanted to become a part of an assembly.

Good summary out there Hanok. At least I don’t have anything to add to the list. Remember, growth-pains growth pains. Everybody has them in the Body of Messiah because we are children and we are not “adults” yet.
In resurrection we will be “adults” / “mature”, but it doesn’t mean that we should give up and stop growing in Yahuwah’s grace and knowing His heart in a deeper and deeper way through Torah-observant way of life in this age.

@Donna – I have to say, the tone of your writing leaves me to believe that you broke completely with Christianity – to the point of no longer seeing Christ as G-d despite His words, and John’s words, and Isaiah’s prophecies, and so on. If that is the case, it would rather make sense that you’ve found no home among Messianic Jews.
A good start towards that oneness you mention would be not referring to Christians as “xtians.” We are Christians. “Xtian” is a removal of Christ — the single most central and holy Figure of our faith, whose Name was put above *all* Names according to the Father, from the very title of membership that we use to indicate we belong to Him. It is most often used as a derogatory term by atheists and pagans and others who wish to denigrate our faith or defame our L-rd. As such, it is generally not the most friendly of ways to refer to Christians.

Donna? =)
I’m not sure of Donna’s specific situation or her belief system or how she would respond to you, Vashra. But I suspect she is very similar to many people within the Messianic/Hebraic/Nazarene movements. There are so many flavors of “Messianic Jews” that you can hardly even use the term any more without the dialog being riddled with confusion. There are some “Messianics” who are basically just Torahless Christian Jews using the name “Messianic”. Then there are those who are fiercely pro-Torah and believe Yeshua wanted ALL of His disciples to walk in the LIGHT of Torah. It is indeed a problematic thing. You’ll sometimes find both of those polarized flavors in the same fellowship… or at least for a little while. =)
Ohh… and the two words “Jesus Christ” was not a name put above all other names. First of all, “Christ” is not a name. It just means anointed. In that since, David was even a Christ… because he was the anointed King. Secondly, “Jesus” was not His name. It was most likely Yehoshua… a name that many other individuals also had… such as the person you know as “Joshua”… and Joshua didn’t have a name above all other names. So more study needs to be put forth in that area. =)
Furthermore, “Christians” were not the original followers of Yeshua. Check out the short video: http://jewsandjoes.com/blog/video-christian-or-nazarene-nazarene-israel-the-original-faith-of-the-apostles/
