“Hebrew Yeshua vs Greek Jesus” by Nehemia Gordon

This is a rather long video. But it gives profound insights into the "Oral Torah" of the House of Judah (Jew-dah) and makes an attempt to reconcile Matthew 15 with Matthew 23, where Yeshua seems to both condone and then reject the "traditions of the elders"... that is: commandments added to what יהוה instructed Moshe (Moses).

Nehemia Gordon's book by the same title is also something I highly recommend. It can be purchased here. Even so, the video is more entertaining.

If the video freezes at any point, you can drag the slider forward and backward to cause Google to reinitialize the video. Seems to be a buffering problem for some people.

  1. This was not discussed in your video, but it does pertain to the Shem-Tov Matthew. I have the English translation. My question is this; is the word “cross” accurately translated from the Hebrew? I have the “Jewish New Testament” by Stern and he translates the greek as “execution stake”. My research indicates that he is closer to the accurate translation than other translations. I am convinced that cross does not appear in the Greek manuscripts. Your answer would remove any doubt about this issue as far as I’m concerned.

  2. To Craig Harvey: would you mind explaining why you think that is significant.

  3. To Curt: Truth is always significant. It is human nature to accept many things as true which aren’t. Without testing, we believe so much because the purportedly wise shepherds say so. In my view, Christ’s laying down his life was that for which we owe gratitude, not the means used. The instrument of execution should be taught accurately. Translations need to reflect truth, not be bent to orthodoxies. Revered by many Christians, the cross is also a sign of significance to pagans. It has been so for Baal worshipers since antiquity. It is a sun sign. If taught falsely,a pagan icon may be revered among those who claim to follow Yeshua. The question is apart from the issue of idolatry itself. Is the object false? Do churches hang the sun sign from steeples and compose hymns to it? It is only the blind who seek sight after realizing they are blind absent Yihweh’s dragging them to Christ. I still admit to much blindness and that is why I pray to see.

Tradition is the place of repose for the lazy and it is used to conceal truth. Tradition has been used as a weapon. Mr. Gordon knows Hebrew words and he is not afraid of tradition. I think he can provide an answer as to the appearance or absence of the word signifying “cross” in the Shem Tov translation. Regardless his opinion, I believe he would agree with my desire to flee from idolatry and encourage others to do so as well.

  4. Nehemia Gordon’s presentation on Rabbinal/Pharisaism in the first hour is good and interesting; but his biased motive for use of and his exegesis of Shem Tov’s Matthew is dangerous and deceptive. The Shem Tov document is not reliable..

  5. The Shem Tov document isn’t a single document. It has many manuscripts with various readings (some of which Dave Howard didn’t have access to) of what “may” reflect the original text at different places, just like the rest of the NT… which is largely based upon thousands of different Greek manuscripts which cannot and do not all reflect the original (which means most all of them have scribal mistakes and/or deliberate scribal insertions/liberties taken to conform to their doctrinal views). In some respects, how reliable are the NT texts that we have received today? Are they not all biased in one way or another according to the doctrines of the men who did the translating and took various liberties in choosing between manuscripts?

What Nehemia uncovered and possibly resolved (in Matthew 23 specifically) may be just as or even more reliable than other controversial NT passages that you already accept without question. Anyone who thinks the “Textus Receptus” is the pure unadulterated inerrant “WORD OF GOD”, is deluding themselves… and probably grew up within the Southern Baptist kirch.

Here is Nehemia’s response to Tim Hegg: http://www.torahresource.com/EnglishArticles/was_yeshua_a_pharisee.pdf
    Here is Tim’s rejoinder: http://www.torahresource.com/EnglishArticles/GordonResponse.pdf

Not sure if Nehemia responded to Tim’s response to his response… but I suspect it could probably go on forever if they both allowed it to.
