December 21, 2012 is certainly NOT an arbitrary date emphasized by ancient Mayan Cosmology. It is the precise date of a very rare event that will occur in our solar system and in conjunction to our host galaxy. John Major Jenkins (author of Maya Cosmogenesis 2012) describes the event this way during a History Channel interview:
"The Mayan prophecy for 2012 is anchored to an astronomical alignment. And in December 2012, the December solstice sun will be lining up with the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. This is a very rare cosmic alignment. It happens only once every 26,000 years. ... The Earth wobbles very slowly on its axis so it effectively changes our angler orientation to the larger galactic picture. One complete processional wobble is 26,000 years."
There is much paranoia and euphoria growing in the world regarding Mayan and similar predictions for 2012. It is largely emphasized as the 'End of the World' or 'End of the current Age', but what many people are currently overlooking and/or dismissing regarding the Mayan controversy is the prophecy of one enigmatic Mayan prophet referred to as the Chilam Balam. In his (their) prophecies regarding our current Mayan katun-cycle, Katun 4 (a period ranging from 1993-2012), he made a prediction that this would be the period which would usher in the return of the "Supreme Deity" or Kukulkan!
PAUSE - REWIND
Did you hear that? That's right, Chilam Balam predicted that 2012 would be the time where a so-called SUPREME DEITY would return!
About 22 minutes 50 seconds into the following documentary, you'll hear the orator say "during this period, according to Chilam Balam, the Supreme Deity will return to Earth, heralding the start of a New Age"
What is fascinating and alarming about the phenomenal interest in the Mayan Calendar is how 2012 will closely coincide with the middle of the current Hebrew Sabbath/Shmita Cycle (suspected by many prophecy teachers to be Daniel's 70th week). In the middle of this prophesied 7 year period (what most Christians consider the Great Tribulation) is where the Anti-Messiah (Anti-Christ) will declare himself to be the Supreme God, exalting himself above the true Most High (Isaiah 14:14), and also stopping the altar sacrifices and erecting the infamous "Abomination of Desolation" in the Holiest Place in Jerusalem (Daniel 9:27; 11:31; 12:11; Mark 13:14; Matthew 24:15-16; Revelation 12).
The world is showing many signs of intensifying global catastrophe (religiously, economically, politically, climatically, and even galactic-ally). To be sure, if things really start to spiral out of control leading up to 2012, there will be much more than just euphoric messianic hope in the world. The world will be bleeding for a messiah! ANY messiah, especially if he can solve many of the world's problems. And if he declares himself to be the Supreme God, it will not be nearly as jolting to their minds as the thought is to us under the current semi-civil climate.
